What is AB156?
AB156 is a bill currently under consideration by the Nevada State Legislature in 2025. It proposes providing fair compensation to elected school board members in large school districts. Currently, many school board members serve without pay, making it difficult for working-class families to participate in education decision-making.
Why is AB156 important for our community?
Promotes Diverse Participation
Fair compensation allows more working-class individuals, minorities, and immigrant families to run for and serve on school boards.
Enhances Accountability and Professionalism
Paid positions are more likely to attract responsible, qualified candidates, leading to more transparent and efficient education governance.
Represents Our Voice
Take Clark County School District (CCSD) as an example—it is the fifth-largest school district in the U.S., and the majority of its students come from communities of color, including a significant number of Asian students. We need leaders who truly understand and represent our community.
