Demonstrators oppose executive overreach; 15 arrested including one felony charge
LAS VEGAS — On the evening of June 14, 2025, more than 8,000 demonstrators gathered outside the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse in downtown Las Vegas for a national ‘No Kings’ protest, calling for the protection of democratic institutions and pushing back against perceived executive overreach and authoritarianism.

The protest began at approximately 5:00 PM, with participants lining Las Vegas Boulevard and adjacent streets. Many carried signs reading “Democracy Not Obedience” and “No Kings, Only Citizens”, chanting in unison.
While the demonstration remained largely peaceful, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police eventually declared the gathering an ‘unlawful assembly’ due to safety concerns and isolated incidents. A total of 15 individuals were arrested, including four juveniles. One individual was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon; another was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.
Organizer Response: Democracy Is Not a Ceremony, It’s an Act
The protest was organized by local chapters of progressive advocacy groups, including Indivisible Las Vegas. Spokesperson Barbra Wolfe addressed the crowd, stating:
“When a president behaves like a king, it’s our duty to remind him he works for us—not the other way around.”
She emphasized that the protest was not directed at a single agency like ICE, but rather at the broader danger of power consolidation. “We’re not here just to resist a person; we’re here to defend the structure of our shared democracy.”
Voices from the Community
The event drew a diverse group of participants, including youth, immigrant families, and labor organizers. DelToro, a community immigration advocate, told the crowd:
“Brown bodies being made unsafe—that’s not right. We’re here together because silence is no longer an option.”
A Shift Toward Structured Civic Mobilization
Unlike past one-off protests, the “No Kings” action was coordinated across multiple states and cities and included legal trainings, Know Your Rights materials, and social media campaigns. Organizers encouraged nonviolent conduct and provided de-escalation resources.
Analysts noted that this protest represents a shift from reactive demonstrations toward more deliberate, structured civic organizing.
