Some first-generation Chinese immigrants who have acquired foreign citizenship after decades abroad are reconsidering whether to spend retirement in mainland China. Lower living costs, familiar language and culture, family ties, and a familiar social environment may all be part of the appeal. But the more useful question is not whether China or life abroad is “better.” It is which kind of life can better support the next twenty or thirty years of retirement.
